Re: access from LA airport to the city

Most of the time, the shared vans are the best - they can handle your luggage, and will deliver you to the destination you are going to. The rates are reasonable to most major hotels. Check out www.primetimeshuttle.com and http://supershuttle.com/htm/cities/lax.htm .

If you are planning to stay near downtown or in the San Fernando Valley, the LA Flyaway bus is only $3. Please see: http://www.lawa.org/vny/flyAwayInfo.cfm

You should decide what you want to do in L.A. before you decide on accommodations. You might stay at a cheap hotel, but you might pay more for transportation to area attractions.

If you don't plan on going to Disneyland, Pasadena is pretty good. Pasadena has Huntington Gardens, Norton Simon Museum and good shopping in Old Towne Pasadena. You can take the gold line (www.metro.net) to Chinatown, downtown and Union Station.

    From Union Station, you can:
    * take the red line to Universal Studios
    * take the Santa Monica bus to the Santa Monica Pier/Third Street
    * take the shuttle bus to Dodger Stadium for a baseball game

    Good luck with your trip.

    Dear CHIEZOU-san,

It is a little bit confusing about your “the city,” if you mean the downtown area some European called for or the financial district. Fortunately the downtown and financial district is close by. Recommend to take a shuttle bus to the downtown as an economical way: the cost may be ten dollars. If you only have a small bag, try to take LA subway: Free shuttle is available to LAX Station. The cab fare must not be too expensive if you have big bags or co-travelers. As my recommendation to hotel accommodation; I sometimes stay at Vagabond Inn in California. Note that Vagabond is not for hobos, but for economical travelers: Please check the rate in the following web:
    http://www.vagabondinns.com/

Although I have not tried, if you are a young traveler, many people recommend you to stay at Youth Hostels. I located a locator for you:
    http://www.hostelscentral.com/structure-4693.html

Furthermore, many semi-professional advisers are available in this forum: Try to locate your information needed by KENSAKU search in the past log. If you can locate the information by Mr. Greensocks, his responses may be helpful for you. Please do not ask me more.

    Good luck!
